Spiritual Simplicity

The way that can be told is not the eternal Way.
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The nameless is the beginning of heaven and earth.
The named is the mother of ten thousand things.

–Tao Te Ching

When people come to the United States, they are often overwhelmed by our mega supermarkets. And the most overwhelming aisle is the cereal aisle. Heck, I grew up here and I get heart palpitations just thinking about it. I did a quick search to see how many kinds of cereal there are. Would you believe that I found a list that named almost 100 ... just under the letter C?!

Simplicity is a buzzword these days....

  2. Wonderful! Simplicity is a focus of mine, and I like the idea of spiritual simplicity. I would agree that kindness seems to be the thread that should tie all religions together. I mean, if we don't have that...

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Marie--Thanks! I hope you have a lovely day, too!

Christina--I just read an article about how the Golden Rule is common to all faith traditions. Sort of the same idea as kindness. Thanks for commenting.

  5. I too agree that kindness leads to everywhere, it opens all doors, and connects us....whether we are strangers, friends, or family.....kindness is the way. What an amazing woman you are Galen, I kind of already knew that, but reading that article brings out so much more....there should never be limits when it comes to kindness, love and devotion....thanks for sharing this lovely article Galen!

  7. Wow, that's a lot of different cereals. How do you choose which ones to buy? I seldom go into that isle, one box of cereal lasts me two, sometimes three or four months. I don't eat much.

I only wish I had the time to see what type of a journey I'd go on if I clicked your links, I apologize for not having the time to do so. It's a crazy time of year for me, I'll be back to visit again when I have more time. Take care.

  8. I loved your post! I also feel that the different religious faiths are actually like different langages that are saying the same thing. We just need to see message that is given thanks to the language.
I can't help admiring again and again how well you describe and explain these things!

  9. WOW that is the word the LORD is trying to "stress" to me this morning...Rhonda "Simplicity" ....thank you my friend for being such a sweet yielded vessel of the LORD to reach down into this one gal's heart that always seems to make the way harder than necessary! Hugs to you

  10. darlin--Don't worry. My blog is intended to reduce stress not add to it! You probably know that I focused on one step a month this year, so if you ever want to read anything about a particular step, you can go to that month. I'm always pleased when you stop by. Thanks for your comment.

Beliza--Yes. I think hearing the message through different languages is enriching rather than threatening. Thanks for your kind words, and for your comment.

Rhonda--So interesting that you used the word "yielded" since my word of the year this year is "yield." And certainly life has offered me many opportunities this year to practice yielding! I'm pleased that the Lord spoke to you through my blog today. Thanks for your comment.

  11. Hi Galen,

Simplicity is the key to a wonderful life. We need to put more time into people rather that things.
Blessing always and thank for the reminder.'

  13. Debbie--So true about putting more time into people rather than things. Thanks for your comment (and for your longer comment on The Bridge Maker!).

Sandra--I got that shape of water idea from Bruce Lee--quite a philosopher in addition to being a master martial artist. Thanks for commenting.

  14. I walked by some beautiful cut, shaped Christmas trees in front of the grocery store this morning. Loved their look. But we bought a small, live tree in a pot, decorated it simply, and will plant it in January. Simpler.

  15. This was an awesome post and I agree simplicity should be the way; but in today's world it doesn't seem to be that way.I enjoyed the read and was enlightened by your thoughts.
Blessings to you and keep on enjoying the moments.
