Blog Comments Update

Well, wasn't I the pot calling the kettle black?! I get impatient sometimes with the word verification process when I'm trying to leave a comment on someone's blog. This is because my ancient computer is already slow as molasses. I never realized that I had that on my blog. I know, I am still learning basic stuff even after a year. It's embarrassing. Anyway, I just figured out first that I did have a word verification requirement, and second, how to remove it. So now you won't have to go through that step. I hope that makes you "happier" about leaving comments!

  2. Hi Galen,

I know what you mean about having stuff that you have not taken a second look since its installation on the site. It happens to me too.

There is nothing to be embarrassed about. There really is a lot to learn about websites and blogging. People expect me to know a lot about the technical stuff. But I am best at just hitting the button "publish"!

Yeah, thanks for removing the word verification process. It would be much faster for me to leave a comment now.

    Hugs,
    Evelyn

  3. Galen....that really does make it a little easier...sometimes those of us with wrist problems or hand problems have a little trouble sitting at our computers for any length of time....so any savings helps.

    thanks,

    Jo

  4. Galen you are very kind and considerate. I don't mind either way but I'm sure that those who don't like it appreciate it. Have a great night!

  5. I would leave comments anyway, but it is nicer without it for sure. By the way: how did you remove it? I think I have it on mine as well and I would love to remove it as well...

  6. Ooh, that sounds like a good idea. I've developed that slight impatience as well.

  7. Coolio, I am not the only one still learning about all the tweaks I can make to my blog. I quit stressing about learning everything and just focus on doing one thing here or there to learn how to run my blog just a bit better. Each step helps me get closer to have a real professional blog. But for now as Evenlynn said above hitting publish for me is just fine.

  8. I love your blog but thanks for removing the word verification. It makes posting comments from my phone much easier!

  9. The reason bloggers use the verification system is to cut down on spam and autobot responses.

But, until you have that problem, eliminating that step for your readers is thoughtful and appreciated.

Of course, if you are ever "under attack" turn it back on until the bad people or machines pick another victim!

  10. I haven't generated this much excitement since I opened the debate over whether the toilet paper should roll over the top or from underneath! (No, let's not go there again. We all know it should roll over the top!) I wish someone had called this to my attention before--I had no idea. If there is anything else I should know about, speak up!

Thanks to all for making the extra effort to comment all this time!

Beliza--If you are on Blogger, go to Settings, then click on Comments. Scroll down till you see the question about word verification and check no. Then be sure to save your settings by clicking on the save button at the bottom of the page.

  11. Here I thought it was just a Blogger default.

Can't say it ever stopped me from commenting, though I don't see all that well and sometimes had to zoom in to get those odd wavy letters. Can't they just display them like regular type?

  12. Got it! Thanks a lot Galen! :)

  13. PS: I forgot: toilet paper should definitely roll over the top, lol!

  14. Hi Galen,
Oh it was just a minor inconvenience (pales in comparison to the gravitas of the toilet paper problem).

  15. Galen, Don't feel bad, I thought it wasn't on mine either until I was in the A-Z and they told me to remove it so people could comment faster. We may get some spam because some people do but I haven't so far.

  16. So lovely of you Galen to think of us. Thank you!

It's a pretty steep learning curve around here but to put your mind at ease the Word Verification process is everywhere on Blogger [and as Bob mentions above.. probably for good reason] Bots leaving messages and spam comments are a real nuisance and you might find you have to turn it back on again to stop it.

Wordpress has Akismet which is a pretty effective spam filter and commenters don't have to go through the hoops. Without it I'd probably get hundreds of spam comments a day. Yep. It's that bad. But see how it goes. Meantime... we real people [not being bots n' all] really appreciate it! :-)

  17. I do not do any of my tech work...my IT Girl does and after 2 years of very limited success at blogging - she is having burn out with trying to help me...and now I think I have found a business connection to my blog which can make me some income, and I have no income to pay someone else...and now no faith that I can earn funds at all...folks always get upset with disabilities at some point or other...and dyscalcula is a strange one that folks do not understand..
so hip hip hurray that you were able to figure it out and adjust. You go girl!

  19. Can anyone define the word Happiness? What is Happiness we do not know because every single person has its own meaning of happiness. Finding the ways to be happy in life is only a way that can make everyone happy in this world.
